It Is Mercury Retrograde Time Again!

mercury-retrogradeThat’s right folks, that dreaded astrological influence that makes everyone run for cover and start to panic. But, do we really need to fear Mercury in retrograde or can we embrace it and the good changes that will come from it?

This current cycle is April 28 until May 22nd, and three to four times a year, we are blessed with everyone’s favorite havoc-wreaking planet that goes into a retrograde period, slowing down in its orbit and appears to move backward. But the retrograde is really an optical illusion, since no planet actually moves backward!  Retrograde of any planet like Mars, (which is also happening since April 17th, and we will be having a total of 5 planets in retrograde soon) does happens periodically, when the motion is temporarily switched to an east-to-west direction, before turning back to regular motion. Essentially a planet stops, and then turns retrograde when it catches up to, and then passes a slower moving planet.

So why of all the planets does Mercury seem to have the most noticeable effect on us humans? From an astrological standpoint, Mercury is the ruler of all forms of communication, honesty, clarity and even travel. This is considered a time of reflection. You may notice that past issues are revisited, hashed out and made peace with. It’s possible a new perspective will be gained from this awareness, if you work with the energies at play instead of against them. People and situations from your past can make an appearance, if there is unfinished business. Make sure that you are clear and concise with your communication and what you truly wish to say, back up your computer and important files, try hard not to purchase any electronic devices as you may need to return them later on, and be very careful with signing contracts or your travel plans, as things can happen and not be what they seem to be!

So whether you believe in the power of Mercury to shake up your life or not, maybe try to use the next few weeks as an opportunity to review what comes to the surface, and gain a bit of wisdom.  It’s also advised to hold off on making important decisions during Mercury Retrograde, because someone is always bound to change their mind later. Remember to embrace what comes to you and use it as an opportunity to make things right, and more positive for the future.
